Blog Prompt #5

"The most powerful learning in schools and child care centers occurs informally, accidentally, unintentionally, through the ‘messages' we send to them about who they are as people and where they fit in the world" (Swiniarski & Breitborde, p. 124).

"Teachers have an unmatched power to affect the lives of children and what they ‘know' about themselves and the world" (Swiniarski & Breitborde, p. 124).

These are two powerful quotes from past readings. Think back to a school experience where a teacher used his or her power to affect a child, you or a classmate, in a negative way. Describe that situation as best you can. What lesson was taught? If that teacher had the opportunity to take a class such as C&I 111, how might they have handled the situation differently? What lesson might have been taught using knowledge gained from such a class?
