C&I 111 Teaching Diverse Students

This week's readings described "a plethora of cultural contexts in which the world's children find themselves" (Swiniarski & Breitborde, p. 96).

Using contexts presented in the readings, predict how your orientation toward family and your culture will influence you as a teacher.

Swiniarski & Breitborde and York both present the statistic by the year 2050, half of all Americans will be people of color. Swiniarski & Breitborde use the term, "the browning of America."

What were your thoughts when you read that term?

From this week's readings (S&B Ch 2 & 6; York Intro & Ch 1), why do the authors suggest it is essential that teachers and schools address this trend?
